Under the umbrella of the common theme “Microbial Diversity in Environmental Signal Response”, research projects within SFB 987 are structured in two research areas:

In these two areas, adaptive processes are studied that are mounted by microorganisms in response to the sensing of environmental changes. These involve either adaptations in metabolism (D) or reactions of entire cells or consortia (E). Within the overarching scientific theme of the CRC 987, this new internal structure of the work areas is highly congruous and naturally developed from the three previous research areas. Hence, this consolidation further strengthened the conceptual stringency of the CRC 987 and promotes collaborations both within and between the two project areas.
